An inspiring event showcasing the Women and Girls Development Fund’s mission of enabling women and girls to reach their full potential. San Antonio community leaders will pair up with young ladies from the Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio to enter into a Poetry Slam or, spoken-word poetry competition.
A Poetry Slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. Slamming puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they are saying and how they are saying it. There is a diverse range of work within slam, including heartfelt love poetry, searing social commentary, uproarious comic routines, and bittersweet personal confessional pieces.
Poets are judged not only on the content of their slam but the manner of delivery and passion behind their words. They will also be judged by a panel of judges.
